This is the moment two police officers rescued a choking four-month-old baby in central Madrid after finding the infant unresponsive and turning blue.
Policia Nacional officers Fran and Cesar rushed to Plaza de Maria Soledad Torres Acosta following an emergency call reporting that the child was choking and not responding to stimulation.
Paramedics from Madrid’s Samur emergency service were also alerted.
Speaking to Telemadrid, the officers described spotting around 10 people waving their arms to attract attention as they arrived.
Cesar took the baby and immediately recognised the seriousness of the situation.
‘His face was bluish, and I could see he was choking,’ he told the broadcaster.
‘I placed him on my forearm and began giving him blows between the shoulder blades.’
The officer’s intervention helped clear the baby’s airway, and the infant began to cry, bringing relief to the parents and bystanders.
The child was stabilised and handed back to his mother.
