This is the moment a Ouigo high-speed train carrying 454 passengers became stranded in a tunnel in Toledo on Thursday.
The incident occurred after an overhead cable had its electricity supply cut for a yet unknown reason.
The Murcia–Valladolid service stopped in total darkness inside the El Regajal tunnel in Ontigola.
Footage shows a Renfe worker asking passengers to remain calm and ‘be patient’ as another train was set to arrive for them to be moved onto.
Ouigo confirmed that service 6775 had suffered an incident involving the overhead power cables and said it was arranging another train to collect passengers.
The replacement service will take them to Madrid Chamartin, with those continuing to Segovia and Valladolid completing their journeys by bus.
The incident has closed one track between Valdemoro and Villarrubia de Santiago, disrupting high-speed services between Madrid and eastern Spain.
Security staff were being sent to help passengers transfer between trains.
Ouigo also cancelled the affected train’s planned Madrid Chamartin–Valladolid service. Passengers booked on that journey have been offered a free ticket change or a full refund.
The company said it would compensate affected travellers with an amount equivalent to 200% of their ticket price.
The disruption comes a day after the separate train collision near Urda, also in Toledo province, which has left at least 69 people dead and more than 100 injured.
