This is the moment police seized more than four tonnes of hashish from a property in Ayamonte, including over a tonne hidden beneath a floor covered with loaves of bread.
Investigators became suspicious after spotting hundreds of baguettes scattered across the floor, despite there being no animals at the property to explain their presence.
A closer inspection revealed a concealed underground compartment containing more than 1,000kg of hashish.
Policia Nacional said the property served as a storage site for a criminal organisation bringing drugs ashore in Huelva before smuggling them across Spain and Europe.
Officers arrested the custodian as he prepared to move 600kg of hashish in a trailer attached to his four-wheel-drive vehicle.
Further searches uncovered additional packages elsewhere on the property, bringing the reported total seizure to more than four tonnes.
Police said firearms were used to protect the stash.
The investigation began in 2024 following suspicions that a group based in Huelva province was involved in transporting drugs and stealing shipments from other traffickers – in robberies known as vuelcos.
Investigators believe the organisation brought large quantities of hashish and cocaine to the Huelva coast using high-speed boats and fishing vessels pretending to carry out their normal activities.
The drugs were allegedly landed via the Guadiana river before being moved to storage properties, where shipments were prepared for onward distribution.
The arrested man has appeared before a judge and been remanded in custody on suspicion of membership of a criminal organisation, drug trafficking and illegal firearms possession.
