A young mother who was strangled by her partner in front of their young daughter at their Malaga home has died in hospital.
The 35-year-old victim had been receiving treatment in intensive care since the attack in the Pinares de San Anton urbanisation on September 16.
Health sources confirmed on Monday that she had died from her injuries.
Her 39-year-old partner died by suicide shortly after the attack, according to police.
The incident is being investigated as a case of gender-based violence.
It was the couple’s young daughter who raised the alarm after witnessing what happened inside the property on Calle Leoni Benabu.
The child called emergency number 112 at around 6pm, reporting that her father was trying to strangle her mother and that the woman was injured and unresponsive.
Policia Nacional officers and 061 paramedics rushed to the property.
Officers found the woman in cardiorespiratory arrest and began performing CPR before medical personnel were able to revive her.
She was transferred alive to a hospital in Malaga and admitted to intensive care in a critical condition.
Her condition was subsequently reported as stable, although she remained in the ICU.
However, health sources confirmed to Spanish news agency EFE on Monday that she had died.
Police found the woman’s partner dead at the property following the attack.
Investigators believe he had attempted to strangle his partner before taking his own life.
Neither the woman nor her partner was registered in VioGen, Spain’s monitoring system for cases involving gender-based violence.
The police investigation continues.
