A woman has been arrested over a fatal shooting in Malaga province.
The victim, a man in his 40s, was killed in Zalea, a small village belonging to the municipality of Pizarra, on Monday afternoon.
It is situated less than a half-hour drive from Malaga Airport.
It is not clear what relationship the woman had with the man.
Emergency services began receiving multiple calls at around 1.55pm reporting that gunshots had been heard and a person had been wounded.
Police and paramedics were immediately dispatched to the scene, while the 061 emergency service also mobilised a medical helicopter in an attempt to save the victim.
However, he could not be resuscitated and was pronounced dead.
Police sources cited by local media said the shooting may have been an ‘ajuste de cuentas’, meaning a ‘settling of scores’, between rival gangs.
It comes after a 33-year-old man was shot dead in Marbella last week when he was struck twice in the abdomen in Calle Pintor Pacheco.
Neighbours said the victim worked as a street vendor and occasionally provided security at nightlife venues.
More recently, another man was shot in the leg on Marbella’s Golden Mile.
Three suspects – two Dutch nationals and a Danish citizen – were arrested in connection with that attack.
The victim was also Dutch.
