A former tobacco factory will be transformed into a luxury Marriott hotel as a part of a €250m redevelopment plan in Sevilla, its has emerged.
The Luxury Collection, Marriott International’s hotel brand, has been confirmed as the operator of the five-star hotel planned for the landmark Proyecto Vera Sevilla.
The ambitious project is redeveloping the site of the former Altadis tobacco factory on the banks of the Guadalquivir river in Los Remedios.
The hotel will be the second property in Sevilla managed under The Luxury Collection brand, joining the city’s iconic Hotel Alfonso XIII, which has long been operated by Marriott.
Alongside the five-star hotel, the development will include office space, retail outlets, cultural facilities and community amenities, creating an entirely new mixed-use district.
One of the project’s central aims is to reconnect the Los Remedios neighbourhood with the riverfront.
For decades, the former tobacco factory site acted as a barrier between the district and the Guadalquivir, but the redevelopment is designed to open up the area and improve public access to the waterfront.
The Luxury Collection is Marriott International’s premium luxury brand and already operates some of Spain’s best-known hotels.
With the opening of the new Sevilla property, the brand will expand its Spanish portfolio to include hotels in Madrid (two), San Sebastian, Palma de Mallorca, Tenerife and Elciego.
The announcement further underlines Sevilla’s growing appeal to the luxury tourism market, with the city also set to welcome a Four Seasons hotel in Plaza Nueva, while the Hilton Garden Inn in Nervion has already strengthened the presence of international hotel brands in the Andalucian capital.
