Residents have been evacuated and a major emergency response launched after a fast-moving wildfire broke out in Barbate.
The blaze erupted on Tuesday in the Los Visos area, behind the town’s industrial estate and close to La Brena Natural Park.
As a precaution, authorities began evacuating homes in the Veteranos and Ribera de la Oliva areas, along with other nearby properties threatened by smoke and advancing flames.
Around 50 Infoca firefighters are battling the wildfire on the ground, supported by two fire engines and a major aerial operation including 10 aircraft.
The response includes two medium helicopters, a heavy helicopter, a command helicopter, four light amphibious firefighting planes and a coordination aircraft.
Firefighters from Barbate are being assisted by crews from Benalup, Conil and Chiclana, as well as a heavy support vehicle from Cadiz, due to what officials described as the fire’s intensity.
A stretch of the A-314 road between Barbate and Vejer has been closed as the blaze continues to burn, with authorities urging the public to avoid the area and leave access routes clear for emergency services.
The operation also involves Civil Protection volunteers and Barbate Local Police, who are coordinating evacuations and public safety measures.
The cause of the fire has not yet been established, and firefighting efforts remain ongoing.
