An extreme heat warning has been issued for the Costa del Sol on Thursday.
According to state weather agency Aemet, temperatures expected to reach 37C on the coast and up to 39C in more inland areas.
The Sol and Guadalhorce area will be under a yellow alert from 1pm to 8.59pm.
The warning comes after much of inland Andalucia is placed under more severe heat alerts on Wednesday, July 8, as temperatures soar above 40C.

Orange (‘important risk’) warnings have been issued for:
- Campiña Sevillana (Sevilla): up to 42C
- Campiña Cordobesa (Cordoba): up to 42C
- Subbetica Cordobesa (Cordoba): up to 40C
- Valle del Guadalquivir de Jaen: up to 42C
- Cuenca del Genil (Granada): up to 40C
- Andevalo y Condado (Huelva): up to 40C
Several other areas are under yellow alerts on Wednesday, including:

- Antequera (Malaga province): 39C, locally 40C
- Campiña Gaditana (Cadiz province): 39C, locally 40C
- Poniente and Almería capital: 37C, with the highest temperatures expected inland
The warnings reflect a surge of very hot air across southern Spain, with inland parts of Andalucia once again expected to experience temperatures well above seasonal averages.
Health authorities advise people to avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day, drink plenty of water, stay in the shade where possible and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
