A man has been arrested in Cadiz after allegedly stabbing another man with a makeshift spear during a violent street attack.
According to the Policia Nacional, the incident unfolded at around 11pm on Thursday in Jerez de la Frontera, a town popular with British expats and tourists.
The exact area where the attack occurred is known as Las Casitas Bajas, within the Poligono de San Benito neighbourhood.
Emergency operators received several calls reporting a fight and warning that a man was lying injured on the ground.
When officers arrived, they found the victim suffering from serious slash and puncture wounds to his right leg, left forearm and hand, with significant blood loss.
Police immediately administered first aid using medical kits carried in patrol vehicles, applying emergency bandages in an effort to stem the bleeding while waiting for paramedics to arrive.
The injured man was later transferred to the city’s public hospital, where he was admitted to the Intensive Care Unit.
Investigators believe the attack followed an earlier argument between the two men. By the time officers arrived, the suspected attacker had already fled.
Witness statements and evidence gathered at the scene allowed police to quickly identify a suspect.
Officers were also informed that the weapon used was believed to be a homemade spear-like object and that the man could still be armed.

Police said the victim had allegedly been struck in both the chest and legs during the attack.
A large-scale search operation was launched immediately, involving officers patrolling not only Polígono de San Benito but also nearby neighbourhoods including La Plata, Icovesa, Los Naranjos, El Calvario and Las Torres.
After more than three hours of searching, plain-clothes officers located the suspect at around 3am.
Police say they found him still carrying the alleged weapon used in the attack – a homemade spear which reportedly bore visible traces of blood.
The man was disarmed at the scene and arrested on suspicion of attempted homicide causing serious injuries.
The weapon was seized as evidence and the suspect was taken to the police station in Jerez, where he remains in custody pending his appearance before a judge.
Authorities have not released the identities of either the suspect or the victim.
