Several hamsters have been left dumped in a cage under the scorching sun in Manilva, in the latest case of animal abandonment in the municipality.
More than 30 cases have already been recorded so far this year, giving cause for concern among local authorities.
The hamsters were discovered in what the town hall described as a state of ‘total helplessness’, exposed to extreme heat, dehydration and serious danger after being left confined without protection.
The case sparked outrage from the council’s environmental department, which publicly denounced the abandonment as an ‘unacceptable display of disrespect towards animal life.’
Emergency rescue protocols were immediately activated after the animals were found, with efforts launched to ensure their safety and provide proper care.
Officials are now using the incident to renew calls for greater public responsibility towards pets and domestic animals.

Manilva Town Hall also reminded residents that abandoning animals can constitute a serious or very serious offence under Spanish law.
The council said it hopes stronger awareness campaigns will help tackle what it described as a growing problem in the municipality and encourage greater sensitivity towards animal welfare.
