Ryanair has denied that one of its planes caught fire after landing at Murcia Airport on Saturday.
It comes after Spanish newspapers, including La Opinion de Murcia, said a passenger jet began emitting smoke 20 minutes after touching down.
The report said that authorities believed the fire originated near the aircraft’s front windscreen area.
The article said smoke quickly turned into visible flames around the nose of the plane while it remained parked on the tarmac.
No injuries were reported and no ambulances were required.
According to sources cited by La Opinion de Murcia, the aircraft crew had already suspected something was wrong during the flight from Britain.
‘The pilot noticed a rise in temperature while airborne,’ one source said.
‘It was after landing that the problem fully revealed itself and the fire started.’
However, a Ryanair spokesperson told the Spanish Eye today: ‘There was no fire on any of our aircraft at Murcia-Corvera Airport this morning.’
It said it was in the process of ‘following up with media incorrectly reporting that there was’.
The Spanish Eye has contacted Murcia Airport for comment.
