Helicopters were roped in to tackle a fire that broke out in Estepona on Sunday.
The blaze in Rio Padron was declared by Andalucia’s wildfire service INFOCA at 2.59pm.
Firefighters, supported by 20 ground personnel, two fire engines, one light helicopter and one medium helicopter, were deployed to put out the flames.
In an update at 3.53pm, INFOCA said that they had reclassified the fire as ‘urban’, meaning that it is no longer deemed to be a forest fire.
By 7pm, the force said it had withdrawn from the firefighting effort and had left the rest of the extinguishing task to Malaga firefighters.
Images from the scene earlier in the day showed thick plumes of smoke billowing into the sky as the fire burned close to the roadside and nearby buildings.
The Proteccion Civil service said in a post on Facebook that people should avoid driving near the fire and to keep roads clear for emergency vehicles.
The cause of the inferno has not yet been established and there is currently no information about any injuries, evacuations or damage to property.
The incident comes as much of Andalucia remains under high temperatures, with the Costa del Sol experiencing another day of intense summer heat.
