A British woman has died from the injuries she suffered in last month’s devastating Almeria wildfire, while her partner continues to fight for his life in hospital.

Lisa Fryett and Simon Batchelor, from Essex, were caught up in the blaze near Bedar and Los Gallardos on July 9.

The couple were rescued and rushed to hospital with life-threatening injuries.

In an emotional update posted to a GoFundMe page set up to support the family, relatives confirmed that Lisa had died.

‘Our hearts are completely broken, and there are simply no words to describe the pain we are feeling,’ the family wrote.

‘Lisa fought so incredibly hard, and we are so grateful that her loved ones were able to be by her side, surrounding her with love until the very end.’

The family also thanked everyone who had donated, shared the fundraiser or kept them in their thoughts.

‘The love, kindness and generosity we have received have brought us comfort during the most devastating time of our lives.’

The fundraiser has now raised more than £650,000, with the money intended to support the family and ‘give Lisa the beautiful send-off she deserves.’

Meanwhile, Simon Batchelor remains in critical condition in hospital.

The family urged supporters to continue praying for his recovery.

‘Please continue to keep Simon in your thoughts and prayers as he remains in critical condition. Our family is holding onto hope and taking each day as it comes, and your continued love, support and prayers mean the world to us.’

The Almeria wildfire was one of Spain’s deadliest in recent years, claiming more than a dozen lives as flames swept through communities near Bedar and Los Gallardos.
