A 14-year-old girl who disappeared during the migrant crisis in Ceuta has been found safe, bringing an end to an appeal that sparked widespread concern.
Missing persons charity SOS Desaparecidos confirmed on Monday that the alert for Hasnae A. had been deactivated after she was located.
In a brief statement shared on social media, the organisation said: ‘Alert deactivated. Located thanks to your help in sharing the alert.’
The teenager had been reported missing on July 30, the day tens of thousands of people crossed from Morocco into the Spanish enclave during the unprecedented border crisis.
Her disappearance came amid the chaos of the mass crossing, which has left at least 90 people dead, according to the latest figures released by authorities, while others remain missing.
No further details have been released about where the girl was found or the circumstances surrounding her disappearance.
It comes after SOS Desaparecidos launched a dedicated database to help reunite families separated during the mass crossings from Morocco.
The association said it had created the register to help trace adults and children who became separated amid the chaos.
It noted that language barriers and difficulties reporting disappearances from abroad have complicated efforts to locate loved ones.
SOS Desaparecidos said it will verify information provided by relatives before creating an individual identification file for each missing person, with the aim of speeding up family reunifications.
The organisation has also called on the governments of Spain and Morocco to coordinate efforts to simplify the reporting of disappearances and the collection of DNA samples to help identify those still unaccounted for.
The initiative comes after well over 50,000 people crossed into Ceuta from Morocco last week, leaving dozens dead and separating numerous families in the chaos.
