A leading police union has claimed Ceuta has witnessed multiple rapes of women and girls following the storming of the border last week.

It comes after it was confirmed that authorities were investigating the brutal sexual assault of a migrant minor.

In an interview with the television programme En Boca De Todos, spokeswoman for the JUPOL union Laura Garcia said the general public is unaware of the seriousness of the situation in the Spanish enclave.

When asked if there were more cases of rape being reported, Garcia said: ‘Thanks to a number of news organisations, it is being made public that apart from the rape of the minor, which has been reported and documented, there is another 10 cases involving minors.’

She added that there are also victims who are not underage, but said they are ‘very scared’ to come forward.

‘It makes sense, as they are in a critical situation,’ she said. ‘In the case of the minors, the juvenile prosecutor’s office should act ex officio, let’s hope this is the case, but we are aware of at least one sexual assault against a minor.’

The presenter then asks if the alleged attacks were gang rapes, or carried out by groups of men.

Garcia said the injuries of the known girl victim suggest there were ‘various attackers’, adding that they were ‘devastating’.

She confirmed that the alleged attackers were migrants and that the victim was also a migrant.

Garcia added that officers are finding it difficult to get information from the authorities about the alleged crimes, accusing the government of a cover up.

‘The government don’t want you to know what is going on there, because they are witnessing extremely serious scenes,’ she claimed.

She said some of the migrants have sexually assaulted multiple girls and women, and that they are increasingly taking place in remote, hard-to-access areas.

Garcia said a number of attacks have been stopped by witnesses and local residents.

‘They are even taking place in the mountains, but unfortunately we cannot be everywhere,’ she said.
