A 28-year-old trans woman was targeted by two Moroccan men on a Malaga commuter train, it has been claimed.
The victim was travelling with a friend on a Cercanias service towards Torremolinos when two men in their 20s began staring and making gestures.
According to the police report, the pair launched into a barrage of insults, including the chilling remark: ‘If you were in Morocco, you wouldn’t dare go out like that.’
What began as harassment quickly turned physical, but by chance, an off-duty Guardia Civil officer was on board.
As the situation intensified, he identified himself and stepped in, placing himself between the attackers and the victim.
His intervention prevented the assault from escalating further and ensured the woman’s safety until the train reached its destination.
The incident took place at around 5pm, with Policia Nacional officers waiting at La Nogalera station in Torremolinos when the train arrived.
The suspects were identified at the scene, though no arrests were made. A full report has been submitted to the courts, which will now determine the next steps.
The victim was immediately assisted by the specialist Equipo de Atencion a la Mujer (EAM), which provided psychological support following the ordeal.
According to the unit, the language used by the alleged attackers showed ‘explicit hatred’ towards the woman’s gender identity, raising the possibility that the case will be treated as a hate crime.
A formal report has already been sent to the prosecutor’s office specialising in such offences.
