An inland town home to just 3,300 people has been named the cheapest place to buy a property in Malaga province.

The humble municipality lies around 70km from Malaga Airport and an average asking price of €903 per square metre.

By comparison, homes in Marbella, especially on the Golden Mile, can cost upwards of €8,000/m2.

The cheapest municipality in question is Humilladero, according to the latest figures from Idealista.

At the current average, a 100m2 property would theoretically cost around €90,300, although actual asking prices vary significantly depending on the individual home, its condition and location.

Humilladero is around an hour and a half by road from Marbella, putting considerable distance between residents and the beaches and resorts of the Costa del Sol.

The town is located close to Antequera and benefits from relatively easy access to the A-92, one of Andalucia’s most important road arteries.

The motorway provides connections towards Malaga as well as Sevilla and Granada, making the location potentially attractive to buyers who do not need to live on the Mediterranean coast.

Humilladero itself is predominantly rural and surrounded by the landscapes of inland Malaga.

Nearby natural attractions include the Sierra de Humilladero and Laguna de la Ratosa, while the town provides the essential services required for everyday life.

Its comparatively low property prices highlight the extraordinary divide that has developed between different parts of Malaga province.

The Costa del Sol has experienced intense housing demand in recent years, driven by domestic and international buyers alongside limited supply in many of its most desirable locations.

But significantly cheaper homes can still be found by looking away from the coast.
