The shooting on Marbella’s Golden Mile on Tuesday was the result of an ongoing rivalry between drug traffickers, police have said.
Malaga minister Javier Salas today revealed the three men arrested comprised of two Dutch nationals and one Dane.
The victim, who took a bullet to the leg, was also a Dutch national. His injuries have been described as minor.
The incident unfolded shortly after 2.15pm on Avenida Ramon Gomez de la Serna, close to a hotel in the popular Costa del Sol resort.
Several witnesses called the 112 Andalucia emergency service after hearing gunshots ring out in the area.
Policia Nacional and Local Police officers raced to the scene, while paramedics were dispatched to treat the wounded man.

The victim was found suffering from a gunshot wound to one of his legs and received medical attention.
The precise motive behind the shooting remains unknown, but fits with previous ‘warnings’ or ‘settling of accounts’ between rival clans.
The shooting took place on Avenida Ramon Gomez de la Serna, which runs through one of Marbella’s busiest and most exclusive areas, close to the Golden Mile.
Earlier witness accounts described hearing a succession of shots before seeing people fleeing.
Police have yet to release the identities of the three suspects.
