A 45-year-old woman has been arrested over the fatal Fuengirola car crash on Thursday night.

A 25-year-old bystander was one of two people killed in the horror collision, alongside the 47-year-old front seat passenger of the vehicle which was speeding down the city’s Paseo Maritimo.

Fuengirola town hall confirmed that an Iranian woman who was behind the wheel was arrested after an illegal level of alcohol was detected in her system.

It said the 25-year-old victim was on holiday from Sevilla and ‘died instantly’ upon being hit by the car.

Footage shared from the scene of the crash next to a restaurant’s terrace last night showed people hugging and consoling one another.

The vehicle was pictured completely crumpled after colliding with a lamppost outside the Don Santiago pizzeria at around 9.30pm, before hitting another vehicle.

Among the injured are a baby, as well as three men, two aged 50 and another 42.

All three adult men are in a serious condition. The fatal collision occurred after a day of Maundy Thursday celebrations.

The fatal crash unfolded outside the Don Santiago pizzeria, where dozens of people had been sitting outside.

The speed limit on the Paseo Maritimo de Fuengirola is 30km/hr.

The Policia Local is currently leading the investigation alongside Policia Nacional and firefighters.

Fuengirola town hall said in a statement on X: ‘Fuengirola town hall regrets the death of two people last night on the Paseo Marítimo, near Carvajal Street, as a result of a traffic accident.

‘It also wishes a speedy recovery to three seriously injured people and seven other people with varying degrees of injury.

The fatal crash unfolded outside the Don Santiago pizzeria, where dozens of people had been sitting outside.

‘The incident occurred around 10:00 p.m. A vehicle traveling on this road towards Marbella at an inappropriate speed left the road, collided with a corner column of a building, and moved along the sidewalk for a few meters, hitting a pedestrian – approximately 25 years old, from the province of Seville, who died instantly – and ten other people, who suffered varying degrees of injury.

‘The passenger of the car that caused the accident died as a result of the impact.

‘The vehicle was driven by a 45-year-old Iranian woman, who was identified by the Local Police upon arrival.

‘After conducting the appropriate tests, she tested positive for alcohol, and she also did not have a driver’s license.

‘As a result, she was arrested by officers and charged with two counts of homicide due to gross negligence, serious negligent injury, and a traffic violation for driving under the influence of alcohol.’
