A series of heat alerts have been issued across inland Andalucia for Saturday as temperatures threaten to reach 39C.

State weather agency Aemet has placed parts of Sevilla, Cordoba and Jaen under yellow warnings for extreme temperatures on September 26.

The alerts will remain active between 1pm and 7pm.

The highest temperatures are expected across Sevilla and Cordoba, where the mercury could reach 39C.

Jaen’s Guadalquivir Valley will also be under a yellow warning, with maximum temperatures of 38C forecast.

A yellow alert represents a low-level danger but means vulnerable people and those exposed to the heat could still face health risks.

Temperatures in Sevilla and Cordoba cities are expected to reach around 38C, while Jaen city should remain slightly cooler at approximately 34C.

The extreme late-September heat will begin easing on Sunday as cloud cover increases.

Maximum temperatures are forecast to fall to around 33C in Sevilla, 34C in Cordoba and 32C in Jaen.

People in the affected areas are advised to drink water regularly, avoid strenuous activity during the hottest part of the day and pay particular attention to children, elderly people and those with chronic health conditions.
