A Wild West film set in the Almeria desert has been put up for sale for a cool €1.6million.
Western Leone, one of the famous Western towns built in the Tabernas desert, is being offered to buyers complete with its saloon, sheriff’s office, bank, undertaker and telegraph office.
The sprawling property covers almost 86,000m2 of land, with 1,881m2 of constructed space.
The set was commissioned by legendary Italian director Sergio Leone for his 1968 epic Once Upon a Time in the West, starring Charles Bronson, Henry Fonda and Claudia Cardinale.
It has subsequently spent decades serving as a location for films, television productions, adverts and other audiovisual projects.
The arid landscapes surrounding Tabernas became internationally famous during the golden age of the spaghetti western.
The area’s mountains, ravines and desert terrain allowed filmmakers to recreate landscapes supposedly stretching across the American West without leaving Spain.
Leone was instrumental in turning Almeria into one of Europe’s great Western filmmaking locations during the 1960s, shooting films including A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly in the province.
Western Leone remains one of the major Western sets in the Tabernas area.
The property has now returned to the market on Idealista for €1.6million.
That’s substantially below previous attempts to sell the site following the pandemic, when it was marketed for around €2.5million or more.
The current listing pitches the property not only as a piece of film history but as a potential commercial opportunity.
Its owners say it could continue to be hired by film and television producers, advertising agencies, music video productions, documentary makers, fashion campaigns and photographers.
Its distinctive setting could also be used for social-media productions and branded content.
The property is also being marketed as a potential venue for themed weddings, concerts, festivals, corporate events, gastronomic events and private celebrations.
