A hit-and-run suspect accused of leaving a 12-year-old boy with a fractured skull has been pulled off a flight heading to Manchester.

The dramatic arrest at Malaga Airport came just a day after the child was struck while walking to secondary school with his older brother in Torremolinos.

Local Police traced the vehicle allegedly involved in the collision and discovered it was a rental car.

Their investigation then led officers to Malaga Airport, where the suspected driver was preparing to leave Spain on a flight bound for Manchester.

The Policia Nacional were able to remove the suspect before the flight departed.

Torremolinos officers later arrested him over his alleged involvement in the collision and took him into custody.

According to the town hall, he remains at Torremolinos Local Police headquarters pending his appearance before a judge.

The Spanish Eye has contacted the Policia Nacional for comment and further details about the suspect.

Boy remains in hospital

The 12-year-old remains at Malaga’s Materno Infantil Hospital after suffering a skull fracture in the collision.

He had been walking with his older brother, aged around 15, towards his secondary school when he was struck at around 10am on Monday.

The collision happened at a pedestrian crossing just metres from the school.

According to a spokesman for the family, the boy’s brother desperately ran after the car in an attempt to make the driver stop.

‘He became very nervous and ran after the car to get it to stop, but it accelerated and drove away,’ the spokesman said.

Several witnesses saw what happened and were able to identify the model of the vehicle, which ultimately led police to track down the suspect.
