The significant wildfire that tore through almost 400 hectares of Benahavis has stabilised once again after reigniting on Wednesday.

The ayuntamiento made the announcement on Wednesday night, adding that residents of Benahavis Hills were allowed to return after having been evacuated as a precaution.

Authorities also advised all residents to close their doors and windows to avoid exposure to smoke.

The flare-up came after the wildfire, which broke out near the Ermita del Rosario on Sunday, was first declared stabilised at around 7.30pm on Monday.

That allowed residents who had previously been evacuated to return home and the emergency response to be downgraded to the pre-emergency phase.

Aircraft return to the fire

Aerial resources were been brought back in to tackle the reactivation.

Three forest firefighting crews, an operations technician, an emergency supervisor and two environmental officers were dispatched to the scene.

They were supported by two fire engines, one light helicopter and one medium helicopter.

The renewed outbreak was in the Ermita del Rosario area, where the original fire began on Sunday.

The original blaze affected an estimated 378 hectares before being stabilised, although it had not yet been declared controlled or extinguished.

INFOCA teams are expected to remain on the ground on Thursday to cool hotspots, monitor the perimeter and prevent reactivations.
