One of Tarifa’s best-known hotels has been recognised at the Andalucia Tourism Awards 2026.
The Hotel Hurricane, which has been operating for 40 years, won the ‘Sustainable Tourism Initiative’ category.
The four-star business will receive its award at the Casa Colon Auditorium in Huelva on September 24, during a ceremony beginning at 7.30pm.
Hotel Hurricane opened in 1986 and sits on the N-340 close to the beach and the Strait of Gibraltar Natural Park.
Its coastal location offers views towards Africa, while the hotel itself is surrounded by subtropical gardens.
Rather than positioning itself as a conventional resort, the business has developed around a combination of accommodation, food, nature and outdoor activities.
Sustainability also features heavily in its restaurant, which uses locally sourced fish and seafood, seasonal produce, fresh herbs and salads and organic ingredients where possible, with an emphasis on locally produced food.
The awards extend across Andalucia’s tourism industry, with Torremolinos among three places recognised as Coastal Tourism Destinations of Excellence, alongside Mojacar and the Intermunicipal Association of Islantilla.
Priego de Cordoba, Macael and the Granada Geopark have meanwhile been selected as outstanding inland destinations.
Other awards recognise tourism professionals, businesses and institutions, while the Feria de Abril in Sevilla and the Jerez Circuit, which is marking its 40th anniversary, are among those receiving the Ambassador of Andalucia distinction.
The awards ceremony will be presided over by Andalucia’s second vice-president and tourism minister, Manuel Gavira, with a reception following the presentation.
