A pair of tourists who went viral for having sex while driving on the lethal A-7 motorway in Marbella have been fined.
The Guardia Civil confirmed that it tracked down the rental vehicle involved and identified both the driver and the passenger.
The incident took place in June, when footage circulated online showing the couple engaging in sexual activity while the car was travelling along the motorway.
Following an investigation, both occupants were reported for traffic offences.
The driver was fined for negligent driving, while the passenger was also sanctioned for failing to wear a seatbelt, offences covered under the nationwide General Traffic Regulations.
Because the pair were foreign tourists driving a hired vehicle during their holiday in Malaga province, they paid the fines immediately.
The Guardia Civil thanked members of the public whose information helped identify the vehicle.
The force said such cooperation reflects ‘growing public awareness of road safety and increasing intolerance towards behaviour that endangers other road users.’
The force also reminded the public that suspected traffic offences can be reported via its 062 telephone number or through the AlertCops mobile app.
