Pedro Sanchez has officially begun his summer holidays after arriving in Lanzarote on Saturday.
The prime minister will spend the next three weeks with his family at the government’s official residence of La Mareta.
Sanchez landed at Cesar Manrique-Lanzarote Airport at 1.07pm aboard a Spanish Air Force Falcon aircraft.
He then travelled by convoy to the residence in Costa Teguise, arriving shortly after 1.30pm.
The prime minister is expected to remain on the island until August 24, taking a break after an intense political period dominated by the migration crisis in Ceuta, where almost 50,000 people crossed irregularly from Morocco earlier this week.
His only confirmed public engagement during the holiday is scheduled for August 12, when he will travel to Yebes Observatory in Guadalajara to observe the total solar eclipse.
La Mareta has long served as the Spanish prime minister’s official summer retreat and has hosted successive heads of government during their holidays in the Canary Islands.
