A migrant who illegally entered Ceuta was stabbed in his torso during a night of skirmishes on Friday, it has emerged.

According to Telecinco, the stabbing took place near Andres Manjon Primary School, when two men who had earlier stormed the border became involved in an argument that escalated into a knife attack.

The victim was stabbed in the side and collapsed in the street before being taken to Ceuta University Hospital for treatment.

The alleged attacker fled before police arrived and was being sought by officers.

Authorities also reported several other disturbances in different parts of the city involving migrants and local residents.

According to police sources, some residents urged migrants to return towards the Moroccan border, prompting confrontations when some refused to leave voluntarily after entering via the Tarajal breakwater.

The unrest came as Ceuta struggled to cope with the unprecedented arrival of almost 50,000 people from Morocco.

Since then, the situation has eased significantly, with the Spanish government confirming that more than 48,000 migrants have already returned.

Security has remained heightened following the deployment of additional Guardia Civil officers and military personnel.
