A ‘dangerous’ British fugitive has been arrested after being found hiding among the expat community near Torrevieja.
The 27-year-old was wanted in the UK for a series of drug trafficking and firearms offences, and an international arrest warrant was issued for him in June.
The suspect was tracked by the Policia Nacional to the small town of Algorfa, a 20-minute drive from Torrevieja.
Police said the suspect was one of Britain’s highest-priority fugitives and was due to be added to the UK’s Most Wanted list before his arrest.
He is accused of belonging to an organised crime gang involved in the distribution of cocaine, cannabis and heroin between 2023 and 2024.
British authorities also allege he committed further offences while on bail.
Police described him as an extremely dangerous suspect, claiming that he had been involved in serious violent crimes involving the use of firearms against other people.
The possibility of a life sentence also led officers to consider him a high flight risk.
After several days of surveillance, officers confirmed his movements and launched a carefully planned arrest operation near to where he was staying.
He was detained without incident before he had the opportunity to flee or resist.
The suspect has now been brought before Spain’s Central Court, which will begin extradition proceedings to return him to the UK.
He is expected to stand trial in the UK.
