The family of a British couple left fighting for their lives following the devastating Almeria wildfire have launched a fundraiser to help cover the mounting hospital costs.
Simon and Lisa suffered catastrophic injuries after becoming trapped by the fast-moving blaze near Bedar and Los Gallardos last week.
They were rescued from the mountainside the following day and remain in a critical condition in a Spanish hospital.
In a heartfelt appeal published on GoFundMe, which has already raised almost €50,000, relatives revealed the couple’s first thoughts after they were found.
‘Despite their devastating injuries, Simon and Lisa pleaded with their rescuers to save them because they wanted to see their children again,’ the family wrote.
That wish has since become a reality, with all three of their children travelling to Spain to be at their parents’ bedside.
Lisa’s twin sister has also remained with her throughout the ordeal.

The family says they are now facing rapidly increasing costs, including emergency flights to Spain, accommodation, food, transport and other unforeseen expenses while Simon and Lisa continue to receive lifesaving treatment.
‘We are raising funds to help ease the financial burden on our family so they can focus on what truly matters – being there for Simon and Lisa during this unimaginably difficult time,’ the appeal states.
Relatives added that every donation, no matter how small, would help, while also thanking those who have shared the fundraiser or kept the couple in their thoughts.
The family also paid tribute to the response from Spain following the tragedy.
‘We would like to express our heartfelt gratitude to the people of Spain and the local community for the incredible kindness and support they have shown during this devastating time,’ they said.
They reserved special thanks for the emergency services involved in the rescue, particularly the Guardia Civil officers whose efforts helped reunite Simon and Lisa with their children.

The couple are among the most seriously injured victims of the catastrophic wildfire that tore through the Los Gallardos area, claiming multiple lives and destroying homes.
Authorities continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the blaze while emergency crews remain on the ground assisting affected communities.
