Six men are set to stand trial over the kidnapping and torture of a Dutch national in Fuengirola.
The group are accused of being part of a criminal gang that lured the victim from the UK before kidnapping, torturing and abandoning him in a wooded area.
Prosecutors are seeking prison sentences of up to 17 years for the attack, which took place in May 2023.
According to the prosecution, the victim travelled from Birmingham Airport to Malaga alongside one of the accused before being taken to a property in Fuengirola, where several other men were waiting.
It is claimed the group acted in a coordinated manner following a dispute involving the victim that had originated abroad.
Once at the property, the victim was allegedly attacked from behind before being tied up and repeatedly assaulted.
Court documents state that several members of the group took part in the beating, while another allegedly cleaned blood from the floor.
Prosecutors claim the victim was questioned but failed to provide the answers his captors were looking for.
He was then hooded, gagged with tape and forced into a vehicle before being driven to a remote wooded area, it is claimed.
There, according to the prosecution, he was subjected to a further brutal assault involving knife wounds and injuries inflicted with pliers in an attempt to extract information.
The victim was eventually abandoned and left without clothing or personal belongings.
He was later discovered by a member of the public, who alerted local police.
Medical reports cited by prosecutors state that he suffered injuries to both hands and feet, as well as multiple bruises and other wounds. He was taken to hospital and underwent surgery on one of his fingers.
Three of the defendants are accused of illegal detention and membership of a criminal organisation, while three others also face charges of causing serious injuries and violent robbery.
The prosecution is seeking seven-year prison sentences for three of the accused and 17-year sentences for the other three.
The trial is due to begin on June 11 at Malaga’s Provincial Court.
According to the Policia Nacional, the alleged attack may have stemmed from a dispute over the theft of narcotics linked to a drug debt reportedly worth more than €3million.
Investigators believe the victim, a Dutch national who allegedly worked for the same criminal network, was previously taken to the UK and subjected to a lie detector test after suspicions emerged over the missing drugs.
When the polygraph reportedly failed to provide clear answers, he was allegedly brought to the Costa del Sol to meet the suspected leader of the organisation.
Prosecutors claim it was there that the violent attack took place.
