A man has died after being found unresponsive in the water off a beach in Marbella.
The tragic incident unfolded at Calahonda beach, where emergency services were called at around 4.20pm following reports that a person appeared to be floating lifelessly in the sea.
According to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service, witnesses raised the alarm after spotting the man in the water near the beach’s chiringuitos and motorhome area.
Several beachgoers rushed to help and managed to pull him from the sea before attempting to assist him on the shoreline.
A major emergency response was launched, with paramedics from the 061 Emergency Health Service joined by officers from the Local Police, Policia Nacional, Guardia Civil and Marbella’s beach service.
Medical personnel carried out CPR at the scene in an effort to save the man’s life, but he could not be revived.
Police and health service sources later confirmed the death of the man, said to be in his 40s.
Authorities have not yet released the victim’s identity, and the circumstances surrounding the incident remain under investigation.
It is not yet known whether the man suffered a medical emergency before entering the water or if any other factors contributed to his death.
