A British tourist was left with a broken nose after being brutally beaten and robbed in Benidorm’s notorious ‘English Zone’, police have revealed.
Two Algerian men aged 20 and 22 have now been remanded in custody over the attack, while officers continue searching for a third suspect – a 17-year-old minor of the same nationality.
The violent assault happened on May 20 in the heart of Benidorm’s nightlife district, an area heavily frequented by British tourists.
According to the Policia Nacional, the 33-year-old victim was heavily intoxicated when he was targeted by the group.
Investigators from the UDEV violent crime unit believe the suspects drove around the area looking for vulnerable tourists before selecting the Brit as their victim.
Witnesses and CCTV footage reportedly show the three suspects getting out of a vehicle before launching a savage attack on the tourist in order to steal his mobile phone.
The victim suffered numerous blows across his body as well as fractures to his nose.
A Pakistani worker who witnessed the aftermath told officers the attackers fled the scene by car after bystanders rushed to help the victim.
The tourist was taken by ambulance to the Marina Baixa Hospital in nearby La Vila Joiosa.

Police later found the getaway car abandoned with one of its windows smashed.
Forensic officers examined the vehicle for evidence while investigators interviewed the victim after he was discharged from hospital.
The tourist reportedly remembered little about the attack due to his state of intoxication but confirmed his mobile phone had been stolen.
The investigation quickly led officers to a telephone SIM card receipt found inside the abandoned vehicle.
Police discovered the car had been rented just two days earlier from a company in Finestrat, allowing them to identify one of the suspects – a 22-year-old Algerian man.
Investigators also established that the same suspect and a minor had been stopped by police the previous night during a routine check on Calle Gerona in Benidorm.
Using CCTV footage, officers identified the suspects’ accommodation and carried out arrests on May 21.
Police say the suspects attempted to dispose of the stolen phone by throwing it out of a window before opening the door to officers.
Authorities believe the group travelled to tourist hotspots, rented apartments for short periods and carried out robberies before disappearing to avoid detection.

Both arrested men are accused of violent robbery, causing injuries and membership of a criminal group.
Police also discovered one of the suspects had previously been detained in Almeria under a different identity for illegally crossing the border into Spain.
The second suspect allegedly has five previous arrests linked to three separate identities.
A judge in Benidorm ordered both men to be held in pre-trial detention while the investigation continues.
