A manhunt is underway after a British tourist was stabbed in the back in Benidorm.
The Policia Nacional in Alicante confirmed the incident to the Spanish Eye, saying it expects to make arrests ‘soon’.
The force told this newspaper that the stabbing incident ‘is being investigated’.
It added: ‘However, we cannot share any information related to the circumstances of the incident because the investigation is ongoing.
‘No arrests have been made yet, but they are expected soon. The victim is in stable condition.’
The Spanish Eye first reported how the incident happened at around 2pm on Saturday near the Railway Bar area of the resort.
In a Facebook post, the victim’s partner, Gemma Foster, appealed for help locating his missing phone after it was allegedly thrown into rubble across from the bar.
‘My partner was stabbed and his phone was thrown there,’ she wrote.
In later comments, Foster said he had been taken to Marina Hospital and was in a stable condition following the attack.
‘He’s in the marina hospital and he’s stable,’ she wrote.
The incident appears to have unfolded after the victim attempted to assist another injured person.
‘My partner walked over to help someone he didn’t know that had been hurt and someone came from behind and stabbed him,’ Foster alleged in a follow-up comment.
