A foreign tourist has been rushed to hospital in Malaga after reportedly spending hours drinking alcohol in the city centre before collapsing in the street.
Emergency services were called to Alameda Principal at around 11.30am on Thursday after witnesses reported that a 56-year-old man was dizzy, disoriented and unable to stand upright.
According to witnesses at the scene, the man had been consuming alcohol since early in the morning alongside a group of other tourists sitting on benches nearby.
The Andalucia 112 emergency service confirmed that medics from the 061 health service were dispatched to the scene after several members of the public raised the alarm.
Witnesses said officers from the Policia Nacional also attended and assisted paramedics as they carried out an initial assessment on the tourist in the middle of the busy avenue.
After being stabilised, a second ambulance arrived to transfer him to hospital, with 112 confirming the man was taken to A&E at around 1pm.
One witness claimed the tourist’s friends allegedly left the area shortly after emergency services were called, leaving the man alone while he received treatment.
The same witness said groups of foreign tourists had been drinking in the area since early morning and claimed one individual – possibly the same man – had also fallen the previous afternoon, hitting part of the glass pyramid structure on Alameda Principal that displays archaeological remains uncovered during the Metro works.
The incident comes as concerns continue to grow in Malaga over anti-social behaviour linked to excessive tourism and alcohol consumption in busy parts of the city centre ahead of the summer season.
