Weather alerts have been issued across parts of Cadiz province as strong Levante winds are set to batter the Strait of Gibraltar and surrounding areas.
State weather agency Aemet has placed several areas under yellow alerts for strong winds and dangerous coastal conditions from Thursday morning (May 21).
The warnings will affect the Strait of Gibraltar area, the Cadiz coastline and inland parts of the Campiña gaditana from 9am.
The Strait area is expected to see easterly Levante winds with gusts of up to 80km/hr, while inland areas including Medina-Sidonia could experience gusts reaching 70km/hr.
Coastal alerts have also been activated along both the Strait and the Cadiz coastline due to strong easterly winds of force 7, with speeds between 50 and 61km/hr expected west of the Strait.
The coastal warnings will remain active until 11.59pm on Thursday night, while the wind alerts are currently scheduled to end at 4.59pm.
Areas affected include Algeciras, Tarifa, Barbate, Cadiz city, Jerez de la Frontera and surrounding parts of the province.

Levante episodes are common in southern Andalucia during spring and summer and can create difficult driving conditions, dangerous seas and disruption for ferry services operating in the Strait of Gibraltar.
Authorities typically advise residents and tourists to secure loose outdoor objects, take extra care on roads and avoid unnecessary activities near the coastline during periods of strong winds.
