Pedro Sanchez has broken his silence following his party’s worst ever result in the Andalucia elections.
The PSOE gained 28 seats on Sunday, representing a two-seat drop compared to the previous vote in 2022, and their worst total ever.
It appeared to shed support to Adelante Andalucia, the more left-wing party that quadrupled its seats from two to eight.
Despite the dire result for the PSOE, some party members were relieved after some polls predicted a total collapse of the party in the region.
Reacting to the result, PM Sanchez said: ‘Congratulations to Juanma Moreno for his result in the Andalucian elections.
‘I want to congratulate Maria Montero and all of PSOE Andalucia for their work and commitment.

‘Thank you for a great campaign, always in defence of public services and the well-being of all Andalucians.
‘We socialists will continue to drive social progress and practical policies, the kind that improve people’s lives.’
The Partido Popular fell two seats short of the 55 needed to secure an absolute majority.
It will likely now have to pact with Vox – who garnered 15 seats – after the left wing parties refused to help them form a government.
