A total of 16 people have fallen ill with symptoms consistent with salmonella after eating at the same feria tent during the Feria de El Puerto in Cadiz province, health officials have confirmed.
According to Andalucia’s regional health authority, 11 of those affected sought medical attention, although none required hospitalisation.
Authorities have not yet revealed which caseta is linked to the suspected outbreak.
The Delegation for Health and Consumer Affairs said the illness has not yet been officially confirmed as salmonella, but an investigation is already underway.
Health inspectors have intervened and taken samples from several food items served at the feria tent in order to determine the source of the contamination.
Officials are now analysing the samples while tracing the cause of the outbreak.
The health department in Malaga has also been alerted because two of the affected individuals are residents of Fuengirola on the Costa del Sol.
Salmonella is one of the most common foodborne bacterial infections and typically causes symptoms including diarrhoea, stomach cramps, fever and vomiting.
Most cases are mild, although severe infections can occasionally require hospital treatment, particularly in vulnerable people.
