A 57-year-old father is among the latest to be named as a fatal victim of the Adamuz train tragedy in Cordoba.
Ricardo Chamorro Caliz is reported to have gotten up to get a coffee from the onboard cafe just moments before the crash occurred.
The prison officer was also a teacher for aspiring civil servants in Huelva and was travelling back with students from an exam in Madrid.
‘A good friend, person, husband, and father. We miss you wherever you are. You left us in a very unjust way; we will not forget you. Rest in peace,’ wrote his son Ricardo.
He had searched for his father among the survivors in the hours after the disaster.
‘We tried until the very end,’ he added.
According to witnesses, Ricardo, who was seated in carriage four, went with two others to the cafeteria ‘two minutes before’ the crash.
Those who remained sustained only minor injuries, suggesting he may have survived had he not gone to the cafe area.
A relative said on social media: ‘Unfortunately, the death of my brother-in-law Ricardo has been confirmed.
‘I have no words, only anger and sorrow. Fly high, and may God comfort your wife and son.’
Tributes later poured in from his students, with one writing: ‘A dedicated man, he loved what he did and was always there for the team.’
Another said: ‘A wonderful person, cheerful and always attentive to his students.’
