Once a jet-set playground for the likes of Elizabeth Taylor and Cary Grant, Marbella is undergoing a seismic shift that was dubbed ‘Marbella 2.0’ in a recent article by Forbes.
It comes as start-up tycoons and elite power couples are increasingly swapping Silicon Valley and Stockholm for the Costa del Sol gem.
The new glamour is all about unicorns, venture capital and €60 million beachfront pads, and Dutch, Scandinavian, Polish – and increasingly North American – buyers are piling in.
Spotify founder Daniel Ek is a neighbour to Canadian entrepreneurs Razor and Kari Suleman, who built and backed multi-million-dollar ventures from their modernist villa just off the Golden Mile.
Cristina Pitarch, Google’s cybersecurity boss for EMEA, now calls Marbella home with her fintech-savvy husband Bob van Winden.
Their stunning home boasts the peaks of La Concha and the glimmering Med as its backdrop.

Marbella’s sunny climate (320 days a year), international schools and top-tier dining have positioned it as an attractive European destination for people who can live and work anywhere.
‘You can walk to the beach, lunch in Cipriani, dine at Nobu and fly to Miami,’ Daniel Shamoon, British hotelier and owner of the iconic Marbella Club and Puente Romano told Forbes.
Marbella’s new guard are creating a future-forward community at The Pool Marbella, a high-design co-working hub that’s more idea accelerator than office space.
‘We’re building a global village,’ added co-founder Christian Rasmusson.
This new crowd are snapping up homes in pricey developments like the UNO. While still under construction, it is already commanding up to €32,000 per square metre.
The Golden Mile, Sierra Blanca, and Las Lomas remain crown jewels. But fashion brands are muscling in too, with Dolce & Gabbana’s Design Hills poised to redefine hillside living.

Four streets in Sierra Blanca are among Spain’s top 10 most expensive, with homes averaging €7 million.
And if a beachfront villa isn’t your vibe, try La Cerquilla, Nueva Andalucía, or the quieter dunes of Marbella East.
The profile of the buyer has changed. It’s no longer just about yachts and Lambos.
‘The bling helped put Marbella on the map,’ said luxury agent Cristina Martinez, ‘but now it’s about quality of life, discretion, and community.’
She told Forbes how she had just closed on a deal with a Manhattan CEO whose family is easing into Marbella life as their professional schedule allows.
