The victim remains in a critical condition at the Hospital Costa del Sol after undergoing emergency surgery.

The unidentified man was stabbed in the stomach in the early hours of Good Friday, just hours before another reveller was shot in the shoulder.

It comes amid a spike in crime along the Costa del Sol over the past week.

At around 4.30am on Good Friday, a separate incident saw a man shot in the shoulder outside a nightclub in Puerto Banus. His injuries were not life threatening.

Witnesses said they saw the assailant fleeing the scene in a car. He has yet to be located.

It came after another shooting between rival clans in Malaga city on Thursday, and a suspicious fire at a popular beach club in Torremolinos.

Then, last night, a man was shot to death in the middle of the street in Mijas.

The incident occurred on Calle Jose Orbaneja in the Sitio de Calahonda urbanisation at around 8.10pm.

The area is near to Monte Paraiso, a development of villas popular with British expats.

Witnesses told emergency 112 operators that they heard ‘eight or 10 gunshots’ in the street, according to police sources cited by Diario Sur.

The Guardia Civil and local police were immediately dispatched to the scene alongside paramedics.

The shooter has yet to be located while the investigation continues. Not much is known about the victim, other than he is a ‘young man’.

Authorities found a burning car near the area of the killing, which may have belonged to the shooter.

Sources said police officers found ‘one or more’ weapons inside the vehicle.

Previous shootings on the Costa del Sol have seen hitmen flee the scene in a car before abandoning the vehicle and setting it on fire to destroy the evidence.
