Fears are growing for a Dutch construction worker who vanished after walking out of his home in Alhaurin el Grande some 11 days ago.
Jeroen Mertens, 48, was last seen at around 11.30pm on September 28.
His loved ones say he left on foot without taking his car or passport.
His mobile phone has remained switched off and there has been no activity on his bank account since he disappeared.
Those closest to him have described the situation as an ‘inexplicable mystery’ and are appealing for help as concern for his welfare grows.
Mertens is self-employed and has worked in the construction and renovation industry around Malaga since 2015.
Friends say he quickly became well known among both the area’s Dutch community and local Spanish residents because of the quality of his work.
He is also described as sensitive, passionate about surfing and determined to learn Spanish after moving to the area.
Despite his partner’s belief that he did not leave Alhaurin el Grande, no confirmed sightings have been reported by residents.
Mertens is approximately 1.85 metres tall and has a slim build, blue eyes and curly blond hair, which he sometimes wears tied back.
When he disappeared, he was wearing blue jeans, an olive-green t-shirt and blue Adidas shoes.
Missing-person organisation SOS Desaparecidos has circulated an appeal carrying his photograph and description.
Anyone who has seen Jeroen or has information that could help locate him should contact the Guardia Civil station in Alhaurin el Grande on 952 595 830.
Anyone who believes they have spotted him should note the location and time and contact officers immediately.
