One of the two people seriously injured in a gas cylinder explosion at a chicken shop in Cartama has died in hospital.
The victim succumbed to their injuries on Monday at the Virgen del Rocio Hospital in Sevilla after being transferred for specialist treatment following the blast in Estacion de Cartama.
The explosion happened shortly before 10am on Sunday at a takeaway chicken shop on Avenida de Andalucia.
Emergency service 112 received several calls at around 9.50am reporting that a gas cylinder had exploded inside the premises, triggering a fire and injuring two people.
Firefighters, Guardia Civil officers, Local Police and medical teams were sent to the scene.
A medical helicopter was also deployed to transfer the casualties to hospital.
No further information has been released about the condition of the second injured person.
The force of the blast and resulting fire caused the shop to collapse, while flames damaged neighbouring businesses.
Smoke also spread into homes located on the floors above the commercial premises.
Once the fire had been extinguished and the building made safe, firefighters cleared the road of rubble and broken glass produced by the explosion.
The investigation into the explosion continues.
