Two women have been injured after a horse-drawn carriage overturned and hit a motorbike in the centre of Fuengirola on Tuesday afternoon.
The accident happened at around 3.30pm on Avenida Condes de San Isidro, according to Andalucia’s 112 emergency service.
Paramedics and officers from the Local Police were dispatched to the scene.
The female driver of the horse-drawn carriage suffered injuries to the head and ankle.
Although she was able to get out on her own, she was taken by ambulance to the Costa del Sol Hospital in Marbella.
The motorcyclist sustained minor injuries after hurting her ankle in the fall. She was treated by the roadside before also being taken by ambulance to hospital.
Emergency services said the horse was able to get back onto its feet following the collision.
The accident occurred during one of the hottest periods of the day, and while the Costa del Sol was under a warning for severe temperatures.
Malaga’s coastline and the Guadalhorce Valley are both on an orange-level alert until 9pm tonight.
The advisory was issued by state weather agency Aemet, which warned of highs of 40C.
The extreme conditions are being caused by the terral, a hot, dry wind that blows down to the coast from inland areas and sends temperatures soaring.
The Spanish Eye has contacted Fuengirola town hall to clarify the laws regarding the use of horses during an orange (amber) alert.
