A heat alert has been issued for the Costa del Sol and Guadalhorce Valley on Saturday.

The warning, from state weather agency Aemet, says temperatures could hit 38C on the coast and 40C in more inland areas.

The yellow alert will be in force from 1pm until 8.59pm on Saturday, August 2, covering the Sol and Guadalhorce area, which includes Malaga city, Marbella, Estepona, Fuengirola, Benalmadena, Mijas and Torremolinos.

The warning comes as much of Andalucia faces another spell of intense summer heat.

Yellow alerts have also been issued for the Sevilla countryside, Cordoba countryside and the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaen, where temperatures are likewise expected to reach 38C during the afternoon.

While a yellow warning represents the lowest level of weather alert, Aemet advises people to take precautions during the hottest part of the day, remain hydrated, avoid strenuous outdoor activity and never leave children or pets inside parked vehicles.
