A 36-year-old man has been hospitalised after being stabbed six times with a pair of scissors in front of his mother in Malaga city.
The attack happened at around 12.40am on Thursday on Calle Santa Marta, near the Cruz de Humilladero district, after emergency services received reports of a seriously injured person.
Officers from the Local Police, Policia Nacional and paramedics rushed to the scene.
According to police, the suspect, 28, repeatedly stabbed the victim in the ribs with a pair of scissors during an attempt to steal his phone.
The injured man was treated at the scene before being taken to the Virgen de la Victoria University Hospital.
His injuries are serious but are not believed to be life-threatening.
The victim’s mother was also injured while trying to protect her son. She suffered a cut to her right arm, allegedly caused by the same weapon.
After the attack, the suspect fled the scene on an electric scooter but was tracked down and arrested a short time later.
The Policia Nacional has taken over the investigation.
