Planning a summer getaway without breaking the bank? Two coastal towns in Almeria have been named among the most affordable holiday destinations in Spain.
According to a ranking compiled by Billionhands, a platform that creates travel lists based on user reviews and recommendations, the towns of Garrucha and Vera both made the national top 10 for value-for-money summer escapes.
The list takes into account a destination’s tourist appeal alongside affordability, highlighting places where visitors can enjoy a memorable holiday without paying the premium prices seen in many popular coastal resorts.
Garrucha: seafood, sunsets and a slower pace of life
Billionhands users praised Garrucha for its laid-back atmosphere and excellent seafood cuisine.
Located on the eastern coast of Almeria province, between Vera and Mojacar, the traditional fishing town is particularly famous for its prized red prawns, considered among the finest in Spain.
Visitors can enjoy long walks along the seafront promenade, sandy beaches and a range of local landmarks, including the Castillo de Jesus Nazareno and the Ermita del Carmen.
The platform describes Garrucha as an ideal choice for travellers looking to experience the Andalusian coast in a more relaxed and affordable setting.
Vera offers family-friendly value
Meanwhile, Vera was highlighted as a particularly good option for families and groups looking to stretch their holiday budget.
According to reviewers, the town offers many of the benefits of a seaside resort without the eye-watering prices often associated with Spain’s Mediterranean coast during peak summer.
The municipality boasts around five kilometres of coastline, including popular beaches such as El Playazo, Puerto Rey, Las Marinas-Bolaga and Cala Marques.
Nature lovers can also visit the Laguna de Puerto Rey, a wetland area at the mouth of the River Antas that attracts a variety of bird species.
Beyond its beaches, Vera offers a wide range of activities including golf, horse riding, tennis, sailing, diving and windsurfing, making it a versatile destination for visitors of all ages.
As accommodation prices continue to rise in many of Spain’s best-known resorts, destinations such as Garrucha and Vera are increasingly attracting travellers seeking sunshine, beaches and good food without the high-season price tag.
