Large parts of Andalucia will be placed under weather alerts on Friday as soaring temperatures combine with powerful winds across several provinces.
Spain’s state weather agency, Aemet, has issued yellow warnings for heat in parts of Sevilla, Cordoba and Jaen, where temperatures are expected to reach between 38C and 40C during the afternoon.
The hottest conditions are forecast in the Campiña Cordobesa and the Guadalquivir Valley in Jaen, where temperatures could locally hit 40C between 1pm and 8.59pm on Friday.
Meanwhile, strong Levante winds are expected to batter the province of Cadiz and the Strait of Gibraltar.
Winds of up to 90km/hr
Orange alerts have been activated for both the Cadiz coastline and the Campiña Gaditana, where gusts of up to 90km/hr are forecast between 9am and 8.59pm on Friday.
The Strait of Gibraltar is also under a wind warning, with gusts reaching 90km/hr during the day.

Elsewhere, yellow wind alerts have been issued for:
- Grazalema, with gusts of up to 70km/hr
- Ronda, with gusts of up to 70km/hr
- Antequera, with gusts of up to 70km/hr
- Western Almeria and Almeria city, with gusts of up to 70km/hr
Most of the wind warnings remain in place throughout Friday, although some areas are already experiencing strong Levante conditions on Thursday.
Heat and wind combination
The combination of near-40C temperatures inland and strong winds along the coast could create difficult conditions for outdoor activities, particularly during the hottest part of the day.
Residents and visitors are being advised to stay hydrated, avoid prolonged exposure to the sun during peak hours, and take extra care in coastal and mountain areas where strong gusts may affect driving and outdoor leisure activities.
The warnings come as Andalucia enters its first significant spell of summer weather, with temperatures expected to remain above average across much of southern Spain heading into the weekend.
