A man came within minutes of bleeding to death in an Almeria street after his girlfriend allegedly stabbed him in the leg with a kitchen knife, forcing police officers to perform a life-saving emergency procedure to keep him alive.
The victim was pouring blood from a deep wound to his right leg when Policia Nacional officers arrived at a property on Avenida Cabo de Gata on the morning of May 17.
According to police, the injury was so severe that two officers immediately applied a tourniquet to stop the massive blood loss before paramedics could reach the scene.
The man was already showing signs of shock from the haemorrhage and had become increasingly confused and disoriented as blood continued to flow from the wound.
Police said he remained conscious but was struggling to respond coherently by the time officers reached him.
Paramedics later transferred him to Torrecardenas University Hospital, where he received emergency treatment.
A woman has since been arrested on suspicion of domestic violence and causing serious injury.
Investigators believe the attack occurred following an argument between the couple after a night out.
A relative who witnessed the incident told police the woman returned home intoxicated and behaving aggressively before confronting her partner.

According to the witness, the situation initially escalated when the woman allegedly grabbed a fork from the kitchen.
After the utensil was taken away, the row appeared to calm down.
But moments later, the witness allegedly saw the woman holding a kitchen knife while continuing the argument.
Police say she then pursued the victim through the property before allegedly stabbing him in the lower leg.
Officers later recovered a wooden-handled kitchen knife believed to have been used in the attack.
Several neighbours told police they had heard screaming coming from the home and reported hearing a man repeatedly shouting: ‘Don’t cut me, don’t cut me.’
The suspect, a Venezuelan national who had reportedly been in a long-term relationship with the victim, was arrested at the scene.
After being discharged from hospital, he reportedly gathered his belongings, left the property and returned to his country of origin to put as much distance as possible between himself and his alleged attacker.
The investigation continues.
