A 60-year-old woman has been saved after collapsing at a beach bar in Torremolinos following a suspected heart attack.
The incident unfolded on Monday when the woman suddenly lost consciousness at a chiringuito on the beachfront.
According to the local council, a local police officer was first to spot the emergency after noticing the woman was suffering chest pain and symptoms consistent with a serious cardiac episode.
As emergency medical assistance was requested, Torremolinos beach lifeguards rushed to the scene in a rapid intervention vehicle.
By the time rescuers arrived, the woman had lost consciousness, prompting lifeguards to immediately begin emergency treatment with a defibrillator.
Officials said the victim regained consciousness within a minute thanks to the rapid intervention.
A mobile intensive care ambulance later arrived and transferred her to hospital for further treatment.
Torremolinos Town Hall praised the coordinated response of police officers and beach rescue teams, highlighting the importance of having specialist emergency units positioned directly along the coastline during the busy summer season.
The town’s beach rescue service currently operates with 23 professionals spread across 11 watchtowers and includes ambulances, jet skis and rapid intervention vehicles equipped with defibrillators.
The council also reminded residents and tourists that the beach emergency service currently operates on weekends and public holidays from 11am to 7pm until June 1, before switching to a full daily summer schedule running from 11am to 8pm through to September 30.
