A 54-year-old motorcyclist has died after a late-night crash on the A-7 in Mijas.

The incident happened at around 10.45pm on Saturday, when a passerby alerted 112 to a rider lying on the road in the direction of Algeciras.

Traffic officers from the Guardia Civil and paramedics from the 061 emergency service were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Despite their efforts, the man was pronounced dead at the scene.

No further details have been released about how the accident occurred.

An investigation is now underway to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal fall.
